ALEX PRICE is a performing musician, producer, mixing engineer and music composer from the Los Angeles area, currently living in Tempe, Arizona. Alex has shared the stage with numerous artists as including Lewis Nash, Michael Kocour, Sean Jones, Jason Palmer and Harold Mabern. In the past, he has performed with the Young Sounds of Arizona as the solo trumpet chair and was a member of the AMEA All-State Jazz Band from 2012-2015. He is a recent graduate of Arizona State University receiving Bachelors of Arts in Music Performance (Jazz) and English (Literature).
Alex has performed on trumpet at the 2017 Chandler Jazz Festival, the Highland Jazz Festival from 2016-2019, the Nash, the Lost Leaf, and more areas around the valley. As for jazz composition, Alex was included in the 2019 June issue of DownBeat magazine, having won an Outstanding Composition Student Music Award for his 2019 piece for jazz sextet, entitled Journey. Journey is now available to listen to as part of Alex's debut album Life Story, released in July of 2019.
Available for Lessons and Commissions
In addition, Alex works as a film and media composer on short films, features, commercial work, interactive media (video games), and more. In 2020, Alex's work on It's Not A Big Deal won him a Best Original Music Award at the 2020 AFA Film Festival.
Alex's work revolves around the idea of storytelling and music as one, working to create compositions and performances that treat the medium of music as a narrative. This ideal is reflected in Alex's film and game compositional work, as well as his recent debut album, Life Story, which is a concept album that weaves together techniques from traditional film scoring and modern jazz composition to tell stories in music.
As well as composing and performing, Alex enjoys educating and currently teaches at Music Maker Workshops in Ahwatukee, having been there for three years. Alex teaches trumpet, trombone, french horn, and piano privately while co-directing an advanced jazz ensemble at the studio. Alex is always looking to take on more students, so check out the Educational Resources tab on this website or contact him for lessons or consultations.
For all independent composition work, Alex produces, mixes, and masters himself (with the exception of 2019's Life Story, which was recorded at Tempest Recording by Clarke Rigsby and mastered by Nathan James at Vault Mastering with Alex mixing the project). Alex currently works primarily in Logic Pro X, but has experience with Pro Tools, Reaper, and Mixcraft in terms of DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software.
Outside of music, Alex enjoys writing that is both professional and personal. Alex currently writes for Music Maker Workshops' blog and monthly newsletter as well as for his personal blog. In terms of fiction work, Alex writes short stories, poetry, and long- form work with his 2019 novella Life Story, accompanying the album.
Alex is open for commission and performance opportunities, private lessons, school outreach, music production work, trumpet tracking, blog and copy-writing, editing and more.
